PASSIVE COHERENT LOCATION

PCL

Passive Coherent Location (PCL) is a form of Passive Radar that exploits existing transmitters of opportunity (typically commercial FM broadcast or DVB-T signals) as an illuminating source for detecting targets such as aircraft.

This technology has many other names:

  • Passive Radar
  • Passive Bi-static Radar (PBR)
  • Passive Covert Radar (PCR)
  • Commensal Radar (CR)
  • Commensal Sensing
  • Multi-static Radar

The key difference to conventional radars is that a PCL system does not use its own transmitter and is therefore completely silent with respect to RF emissions. It can be considered to be a green technology in that it does not produce any RF “pollution” and does not require any additional radio spectrum.

PCL is also bi-static or multi-static in nature which has many benefits over conventional mono-static radars.

The Peralex Passive Coherent Location system is ideal for a variety of surveillance and monitoring applications. These include air surveillance, drone detection and counter-UAV solutions, border surveillance, aircraft detection lighting systems (ADLS), and more.

Peralex is at the forefront of this exciting new technology. The Peralex Passive Coherent Location system can be provided in both fixed and mobile configurations to suit your operational requirements. Please contact us for further technical and sales information.
